Meet our instructors

Candy Clark, Vocal Instructor

Candy believes that as long as you have a desire to learn, a normal speaking voice and an ability to carry a tune, you can learn how to sing. She believes in letting her students direct the type of music they want to sing — opera, gospel, musical theater, rock, and more — and loves to share her passion with students of all ages and ability levels. Candy has her Masters in Vocal Performance from MSU.

Evan Lewis, Percussion Instructor

Evan has been with Miller Music Studio since 2016 but has been a mainstay in the Holt community for more than 25 years as the Holt Jr. High School band director. He attended Central Michigan University, majoring in music education and minoring in percussion performance. Over his long career, he has performed with the Lansing Symphony Orchestra, the West Shore Symphony in Muskegon and the Midland Symphony.

He enjoys helping students expand their musical skills beyond band class and loves when he can help a student discover something new about music and about themselves.

Lisa Summers, Piano Instructor

Michigan native, Lisa Summers, has been teaching piano in the Greater Lansing area for the past five years. Once a former student at Miller Music Studio, Summers has gone on to pursue a career in music. She is currently a DMA candidate for a degree in piano performance at Michigan State University, studying with Panayis Lyras. She is also pursuing a Master’s degree in piano pedagogy.

Summers regularly performs in collaborative recitals, and she participated in the Encore Music Festival with MSU’s college of Music in Todi, Italy in the summers of 2016 and 2017. She also recently participated for her third year with MSU’s Celebrating the Spectrum Festival, working alongside advanced pianists with ASD. Summers has also been invited for poster and lecture presentations to collegiate and national music conferences, such as the MTNA collegiate chapters Piano Pedagogy Symposium and the MTNA National Conference.

Steven Pinckney, Guitar Instructor

Steve believes that if you’re not having fun making music, you’re not doing it right.

He teaches guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin and harmonica at Miller Music Studio, but has played professionally for 35 years. He has performed with several famous musicians, including Chuck Berry and the Crystals.

Throughout his teaching career, he has taught students of all ability levels, from ages 4 to 80 by focusing on fun. He works with students to help them learn how to play familiar songs that they love. Steve believes that with passion and hard work, anyone can learn to play.

Lia Wang, Piano Instructor

Lia joined Miller Music Studio in the spring of 2017. Originally from China, she is currently a doctoral candidate studying piano performance at Michigan State University. Before coming to the Lansing area, she studied at the Eastman School of Music under Dr. Nelita True and the Peabody Institute under Boris Slutsky.

She hopes that her love of music will inspire younger generations to become more involved with this incredible and rewarding field.
